Bob Dylan said it best: “He who is not busy being born is busy dying.” Singer, songwriter and guitarist Ian Moore lives and creates by that precept.

It’s a way of living has led Moore from emerging as, at first glance, a teenage guitar prodigy in the early 1990s in his hometown of Austin, Texas to fruition as a full-blooded musical artist, now based on Vashon, whose rich and keenly intelligent compositions invoke critics’ comparisons to some of the most respected names in both classic and contemporary rock’n’roll music.

The Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi will be shining its spotlight on one of the most innovative jazz bands in the Northwest

The Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi will be shining its spotlight on one of the most innovative jazz bands in the Northwest, the Island Jazz Quintet. Meeting and growing in a place that is the antithesis of bright lights and glamour gave the band a chance to develop its style in peace. That style combines improvisational jazz, bossa nova, and a smoky hint of cabaret in distinctive arrangements that lead Victory Review to note, “Vashon Island boasts a group worthy of national attention. This group would be right at home in a New York cabaret.”

VAA is proud to reprise our annual outdoor summer concert this August. We call it ‘Bramblefest’ in honor of the many brambles that naturally proliferate all across the Island and bear fruit at the peak of summer. It speaks to the idyllic and sweet summers that characterize Vashon-Maury, and we hope you will inaugurate a family tradition of spending a glorious summer afternoon on the grass, listening to exceptional musicians. This year, the theme for the concert has a world beat flavor, beckoning the rhythms of Cuba, Brazil and Spain.
