The Salish Sea Early Music Festival presents GIULIANIAD, its final 2013 program featuring works for flute and guitar by Mauro Giuliani on period instruments with John Schneiderman (Los Angeles) on the early 19th-century guitar and Jeffrey Cohan on an 8-keyed flute made in London in 1820 on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:30 PM at Bethel Church on Vashon Island. Cascadia ’10 is the echo of Afrobeat in the Pacific Northwest–a sound resonating from Nigeria to the Emerald City. They are a small army of 11 experienced musicians, bringing hypnotically funky music to hips and feet wherever they go.

Cascadia ’10 is the echo of Afrobeat in the Pacific Northwest–a sound resonating from Nigeria to the Emerald City. They are a small army of 11 experienced musicians, bringing hypnotically funky music to hips and feet wherever they go. They have opened for national acts, such as Garaj Mahal, and they will be recording a live radio broadcast for KEXP in May, which will be available for download this summer.

As a tribute to Bob Woodman the Garage Boys will host a jam at the Minglement Coffee Roasterie Friday evening April 12th at 7:30PM. We would like to invite those folks who played with Bob over the years as well as the folks who came to listen to come and enjoy the music that Bob helped keep alive and nurture here on the island. Bob gave us so much over so many years that we thought it only appropriate to say goodbye in the best way he would relate to – a good old-time country music jam.

The Vashon Island Chorale invites you to attend its "Coronation" on either Saturday, April 13, 7:30pm or Sunday, April 14, 3pm at Bethel Church. With 75 singers under the direction of Gary Cannon, the spring concerts feature music to recall English coronations of centuries past. Mozart’s "Coronation" Mass, written in 1779 will be sung with the considerable talents of well known local soloists Jennifer Krikawa, Marita Ericksen, Gary Koch and Andrew Krikawa.

Jacob Bain, frontman for the group and also a founder of the all-Islander ensemble Trolls Cottage, grew up on Vashon and lives here now. The group plays an energetic and danceable mix of blues, rock, ska and world pop.

Lily Kiara a visiting guest artist from the Netherlands will play and sing her acoustic folk/pop songs at Snapdragon Café, Sunday, March 24 at 7pm. There is no cover charge for this live music show. On Lily’s first visit to Vashon Island in 1997 she came as a dancer/musician to the Diverse Dance Research Retreat held at Camp Sealth, an annual event at the time co-created by Joan Hanna, Karen Nelson and others. One night we all went down to the Antique Sandwich Company in Ruston where Lily performed in an open mic.

On Friday, March 22 at 7:30 PM the third annual Salish Sea Early Music Festival on Vashon Island continues at Bethel Church with renaissance flutist Jeffrey Cohan, violinist Courtney Kuroda, violist Steven Creswell and harpsichordist Kyobi Hinami in The Broken Consort in Milan, London and Paris. The program will explore late renaissance and early baroque works between 1570 and 1630 on period instruments.

The Free Range Folk Choir will be presenting a Concert at 7pm on Saturday, March 9th at the Vashon Methodist Church (17928 Vashon Highway SW). Come enjoy the harmonies of a cappella choral music from around the world. This concert will include folk songs from Mexico, South Africa, Macedonia, Republic of Georgia and the US. As always, admission is free; donations in support of the event are welcome. We hope to see you there!

Harley paints a vibrant and hilarious picture of growing up, schooling and family life, with wonderful spontaneity. From his large repertoire, he selects songs and stories just right for the moment.
