The High and Lonesome Band is a group of friends who’ve played together nearly 30 years. They’ve been together so long that some original band members have even been replaced by their offspring. With roots firmly planted in American Ethnic music, High and Lonesome brings an intricate, tasty brew of bluegrass, blues, and Bakersfield-style country music.

Paul Benoit has been playing music in the Seattle area and touring for over twenty years. He’s performed and recorded with numerous songwriters including Chris Chandler, Dan Bern, Reggie Garrett and Laura Love. After studying music and literature at the University of Washington, Paul joined the band Crosseyed,

He’s performed and recorded with numerous songwriters including Chris Chandler, Dan Bern, Reggie Garrett and Laura Love. After studying music and literature at the University of Washington, Paul joined the band Crosseyed, an electric/acoustic roots rock group which released two albums and toured throughout the western U.S. with its popular, high energy shows.

The Vashon Youth Chorus under the direction of Marita Ericksen will perform with the Vashon Island Chorale at their Winter Wonderland concerts on Saturday, Dec 5 (7:30pm) and Sunday, Dec. 6 (3pm) at Bethel Church.

The concert will feature “One Voice” by the Wailin’ Jennys, as well as a new composition based on a poem by Thich Nhat Hanh. The show will continue with Toto’s popular 80’s hit, “Africa”, Sweet Honey in the Rock’s “Ella’s Song” and special trio performances by choir founders, Tom Pruiksma, Shane Jewell and Emily Pruiksma.

Known for her perfect pitch and her encyclopedic knowledge of songs, she is an electrifying performer, gliding effortlessly from Frank Sinatra to Billie Holiday. On October 3, Steffon and Arlette Moody present Swamp Bottom Cabaret—a spin-off of their roving outdoor Swamp Bottom Jamborees, adapted for the Blue Heron stage—featuring local musical groups The S Curves and The Nilbillies.

Poultry in Motion is basically what happens when you take talent, good looks, charm and enthusiasm, throw it all together in one band, then take away the talent, good looks and charm. They started out playing volleyball in vacant lots, alleys and transfer stations for tips. Later they graduated to playing music on empty trash bins in old car lots for pigeon food.

Vashon Island band Fendershine’s members hail from five distinct corners of America, and their respective swampy, poppy, psychedelic, prog-rock and folk-punk influences come together in their own concoction of danceable rock. The ‘Shiners all came of age in the 1970’s and musical immaturity in the 1980’s. Collectively they have attended hundreds of arena rock shows, sported dozens of questionable hairstyles, and played gigs in an array of venues including countless crappy clubs, two post offices, one laundromat, and a quilt shop closing party.

An all day music festival featuring prominent young and older established musicians from Vashon and Seattle to raise money for underprivileged kids in the Chautauqau and McMurray music and other arts  programs.

We are working with our sponsors with the support of the Vashon School District  (though this is NOT a Vashon School District event) to provide a full day of music and food and fun for the whole community.

Vashon Events and the Vashon Park District have announced the lineup for the annual Summer Concerts in the Park. The extremely popular and free outdoor concert series will begin on Thursday, July 2nd and run through Thursday, September 10th. All concerts start at 7pm and are held in Ober Park on Vashon Island.
