Vashon Island’s new musical trio, The Van Redeker Band, will be appearing live in concert at Havurat on Saturday, January 24th, at 7 PM.

The Van Redeker Band made a splash at last month’s Hits of the Sixties showcase at Red Bicycle Bistro, playing a scorching rendition of Bob Dylan’s, “Pledging My Time”–announcing that they are a trio to be reckoned with.

This band is ‘nothin’ but rockin’ blues’ and you’ll say “oh yeah!” when you hear them! Can Blues/rock be this much fun? It is for the players and it will be for you when you join this band of musicians who’ve been rode hard and put away wet. They’re dusting it off and shinin’ up nice for another rare gem of a show.

High and Lonesome was formed in 1985 and played all the bluegrass festivals throughout the Northwest. The band broke up at the end of 1989, but reunited in 1993 and were hired to play 3 shows at the very first Wintergrass Bluegrass Festival that year.

High and Lonesome was formed in 1985 and played all the bluegrass festivals throughout the Northwest. The band broke up at the end of 1989, but reunited in 1993 and were hired to play 3 shows at the very first Wintergrass Bluegrass Festival that year.

After another hiatus, High and Lonesome reunited and performed at the Darrington Bluegrass Festival last summer, 24 years after the last time they performed there. Earla Harding, founding member of the Wintergrass Blues Festival, recently said that High and Lonesome was one of the greatest local bluegrass bands ever.

The evening marks the second time we’ve done this to kick off the holiday season in an intimate setting with some of the Island’s more endearing musicians.

It will be fun, festive and for a great cause.

On Friday, December 12, guitarist Michael Nicolella, flutist Jeffrey Cohan and violist Roxanna Patterson perform the world premiere of In Dreams or flute and viola by Seattle-area composer Huntley Beyer, along with a new work for solo guitar by Michael Nicolella. and early 19th-century chamber music for guitar with flute and viola. This combination of instruments was extremely popular during Beethoven and Schubert’s time but has been little heard from since.

Student musicians from Vashon Island High School will open for Brothers From Another from Seattle, bringing Vashon Island’s residents together to focus on teens and young-adults and their musical interests.

Delilah Pearl and The Mantarays perform sultry ballads and jazzy rousers from the era of the divas: Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, and Ella Fitzgerald. Delilah sizzles in front, on vocals, backed by stalwart Vashon Island musicians Greg Dember (piano) , Michael Whitmore (guitar), Toliver Goering (bass) and Dodd Johnson (drums). The Mantarays deliver the standards freshened by an approach influenced by years in rock, experimental and indie music.
This is an all-ages show ’til 11pm, 21+ after that. Free cover!

Open Space for Arts & Community proudly presents our first-ever Electro Swing Extravaganza, featuring Portland’s Sepiatonic and Seattle’s Good Co, in a fabulous evening of dancing to Electro Swing and Original Live Music - all with a twist of Vaudeville!

As the US’s one and only Electro Swing Band, Good Co recently debuted their first album, Electro Swing for the Masses. Pounding dance beats are mixed with gypsy jazz guitar riffs, samples from the past turned on their head along with a live horn section blowing down the house.

This month, on November 20th, we bring you local musicians Pat Reardon & Jenny Bell. The music takes place from 7:30-9:30pm.

The Hardware Store Restaurant decided to start having a regular live music night back in March of this year and it has turned out to be a lot of fun and a great venue to hear some really talented people perform.  Starting in October, we’ve gone from a weekly live music night to a monthly live music night.

The music takes place from 7:30-9:30pm.

Their music blends some of the best traits of rock, alternative country and the Americana vibe present in music from artists like Wilco, Son Volt, Lucinda Williams, Ryan Adams, Iris Dement and others. Multiple harmonies, driving guitar lines and soaring lead instrumentals punctuate good stories and strong melodies. The FieldHands incorporate local flavor and imagery in their lyrics.

So we are pleased as punch to welcome The Great Divide and the Jeff Kanzler Band to the Cider Fest Stomp on Saturday, October 11! You can wrap up a fantastic 2014 Cider Fest at Open Space, and kick up your heels on Vashon’s biggest dance floor, to music from our island’s favorite musicians.

A combination of original and traditional songs are played with emotion stemming from their roots in the Celtic regions.The band has deep roots in Celtic music and ancestry, but are still proud Americans. That is the reason they choose to play traditional Irish/Celtic tunes with heavy influences from generations of American music.

It’s a way of living has led Moore from emerging as, at first glance, a teenage guitar prodigy in the early 1990s in his hometown of Austin, Texas to fruition as a full-blooded musical artist, now based on Vashon, whose rich and keenly intelligent compositions invoke critics’ comparisons to some of the most respected names in both classic and contemporary rock’n’roll music.
