The comedy ensemble known the Vashon Hysterical Society will present an afternoon of sketch comedy and original songs at the Vashon Theatre on Sunday, October 20 at 4PM. Musical guest performers will be Cami and Erik Lundeen and The Twisted Sisters. Spoken word guests Jeff and Cindy Hoyt will tell the story of how they got to Vashon.
Veteran actor Paul Shapiro, a professional clown and founder of Vashon’s Shakespeare in the Park program, will direct the show. Production coordinator will be Stan Voynick who has also served as producer and technical director for the Blue Heron Dance Company for the past 7 years.
Cast members and musicians onstage will include Paul Shapiro, Jeanne Dougherty, Jon Whalen, Bill Wood, Lyn McManus, Adrienne Selvy Mildon, Dianne Krause, Stephanie Murray, Marshall Murray, Lisa Breen, Michael Barker and Michael Shook.
Bill Wood will be singing another of his wonderful ballads about living on Vashon. Bill, who wrote the Island anthem "Keep Vashon Weird", is a former Hollywood screenwriter and has just broadcast his 300th Jazz Guy Show on VoiceOfVashon.org. The other writers for this show are Susan McCabe, Paul Shapiro, Jon Whalen and Richard Rogers.
Shapiro says "There are some new faces joining us this time and Vashon is so lucky to have such talented and funny folks in our midst."
Like the show the group staged at the Vashon Theatre last Spring under the moniker Plan V Show, the Vashon Hysterical Society will feature sketches and original songs that shine a bright and loving light on Island life.
"We really enjoy putting these shows together. They fill a creative niche in our lives and the community really likes the home grown variety show format" says Dougherty.
Vashon Hysterical Society will take the stage at The Vashon Theatre on Sunday, October 20 at 4PM. Tickets are $10 and are available at The Vashon Theatre, Vashon Bookshop and Brown Paper Tickets.
